Perfectus Biomed are pleased to announce that they have been awarded Innovate UK funding.

Over the course of 11 months, Perfectus Biomed will be working with BSN Medical Ltd and the University of Huddersfield. They will work together to develop an in vitro test method for the assessment of the fluid handling properties of negative pressure wound therapies and also super absorbent wound dressings within an exuding wound model.

About the Project

Novel negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) devices and superabsorbent (SAP) wound dressings are being released onto the market. This is happening within the bioscience sector, specifically wound care. This is occurring at a rate of multiple products per year.

Currently, validated test methods that are capable of assessing and also comparing the efficacy of these products are not available. As such, professionals must make treatment choices for patient care. This must be based on marketing material and single case studies.

The development and external validation of this project will support the wound care sector. It will do this by providing an independent test method. This will concurrently improve patient quality of life by supporting the up-take of products. It will also support demonstrable improved performance. ISO 17025 guidelines will validate the test method.
