Perfectus Biomed are pleased to officially announce that the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) have granted an Extension to Scope to our ISO 17025 schedule of accreditation for biofilm testing. The extension includes developing and testing against fungal biofilms using the CDC biofilm reactor. This new service builds upon our current accredited biofilm test methods which assess against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa pre-formed biofilms.

What is an Extension to Scope (ETS)

A scope (or schedule) is the official document that outlines the activities for which the accredited body is granted accreditation. UKAS offer an extension to scope service for those who wish to add to/change their range of accredited activities. Changes to existing scopes is also possible, and can include:

  • Addition of new conformity assessment activities (tests, inspections, calibrations, areas of certification, etc.)
  • Addition of new locations (UK or overseas)
  • Expansion into a new area of accreditation

Extension to Scope for fungal biofilm testing

Perfectus Biomed’s Method Validation Microbiologist, George Gray, lead the development and validation of the fungal biofilm testing. George selected the CDC reactor model, a reproduceable and versatile model, and Candida albicans, a key clinical pathogen. George validated the model with a range of products from wound dressings to household cleaners. Perfectus Biomed management team would like to say a huge thank you to George for his hard work and commitment to this project.
